Drakes/Drax/Dracas(s)

Since 1970, I have been undertaking a one-name worldwide study of the surnames Drax, Dracas(s) & Drakes, which are the same surname and are not normally connected to Drake, except for one tree at Messingham, Lincs., which has numerous Drakes and Drake alternating - sometimes for the same person.

the majority of instances of these surnames world-wide can be traced back to one of seven trees in North Lincolnshire & one in nearby West Yorkshire. The area covered is only 25 miles high from the Humber downwards and 50 miles wide from Grimsby, Lincs. to Darfield, Yorks. The surnames appear to come from the village and Priory of Drax.

Even the West Indian Drakes & Drax can be traced back to this area.

I have over 1,400 pages of trees and would like to hear from anyone interested in these surnames.

I have been helping John & Joyce McCaughan for over a year; he is mentioned on your website.

I would be pleased to see a link to my website on your website.

My website is: http://www.drakesfamily.org

I do my best to help all enquirers and my help is totally free.

Kindest regards,
Chris (Drakes)
