Notes from Kay and Val:

Sept 4th 1809: Lorenzo Grainger buried his own wife, but made no comment.  Lorenzo married again, in 1831, to Miss Marianne Dickinson of Bradford where the wedding took place on 29th November.
Scrophula was tuberculosis of the neck
Natural smallpox - smallpox contracted naturally, as opposed to being vaccinated with it to immunise
