Note: The book suggests that bell 5 had a partner bell, and that the quotation “that evel thinkes” is the second part of a quotation.  This MAY have been: (in modern English) Evil to him who evil thinks .... better known as “Honi soit qui mal y pense.”

At funerals, there were specific tolls, depending on whether the person being buried was adult male, adult female, or child.  This was not the same in each church, and for Winteringham, this is what we had:
